Map

June 2003. Norfolk NMP.
The bank is aligned in an approximately east to west direction, and has a recorded length of 700m. The bank is visible as an earthwork in 1943 (S1), although the ploughed land comes right up to its edges. It is ploughed flat by 1988 (S2). The bank runs from a junction with bank NHER 5529 in the east (TF 6151 2240) to the side of the Great Ouse Lynn Channel (NHER 13532) in the west (TF 6088 2210). The bank appears to overlie, and therefore post-date, bank 27077, although this not certain. A further bank (NHER 27078) appears to be a continuation of this, further to the east, although there is a possibility that these two banks are not contemporary. Although this feature is now on the eastern side of the Great Ouse Lynn Channel, it may have originally been on the west side of the former course of the great Ouse, prior to 1821.
M. Brennand (NMP), 27 June 2003.
