Map

May 1879. Runham Vauxhall, Baly & Sutton's chemical works.
Roman coins including copper alloy of Augustus Caesar and fragments of cinerary urns dug up by workmen carting brick earth. Probably Early Saxon cremation cemetery.
See (S1) to (S5).
R. R. Clarke (NCM)

A few years before 1883.
Cinerary urns found with a coin of one of Constantine family, were on property of brother of Hamlet Watling in what was then west bank of backwater.
See (S3).
R. R. Clarke (NCM)

The siting of these remains are unusual: they are rather close to the water and only at about +1.80OD. It is possible that this site may consist of redeposited material (e.g. a saltern), rather than an in situ cremation cemetery.
See (S6).
K. Hamilton (NLA). 30 October 2006.
