The 'ring ditch' is sub-rounded in plan, and has a maximum diameter of 24m (S1). The feature does not actually appear as a continuous circle, but has a break in its circumference to the north and south. Although appearing as a light 'negative' soilmark against a darker background, it is possible that it is the ditch of the feature that has caused the white anomaly. This may be a natural feature but it is suggested that it is archaeological, and probably prehistoric, dating from the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age.
The size of the feature and the possibility of opposing entrances, to the north and south, might lead one to place this site in the 'hengiform' category, although the appearance of 'entrances' may obviously be due to differential preservation or damage from the plough.
M. Brennand (NMP), August 2001.
