Full Description
June 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The structure has its long axis aligned north to south and has a length of approximately 3.2m and a width of approximately 2.3m. The structure appears to be built from brick with a flat concrete roof. There appears to be a large double doorway at the southern end of the western elevation, with its lintel raised above the roofline. The building appears to have two, brick-sized loopholes in the western wall, and one in the southern wall.
The structure does not appear on the second edition Ordnance Survey (S3) and presumably was not part of the original farm layout. The structure has been built directly in front of the large barn door in the centre of the western exterior wall of the farm. As the military occupied Model Farm during World War Two it seems possible that this structure was utilised to defend the western approach to the farm. The building may have been deliberately disguised as an agricultural building, but equally may be a farm building, such as a generator house, later adapted to act as a fortification or strongpoint.
The structure was visible in July 1989 but has since been demolished. See letter in file.
