Full Description
December 2003. Found while walking on beach.
Ditches with Roman pottery lying stratified within them.
Finder notified Norfolk Museums and Archaeology Service (NMAS) staff.
December 2003. Visited by T. Pestell and B. Ayers (NMAS).
Series of ditches lying at 45 degrees to the coastline. Possibility that it's a saltern site.
Looks to be covered with an ancient topsoil, also containing Roman pottery and building material.
T. Pestell has seen a photograph of a waterlogged wooden structure which is probably related but difficult to tell.
Details to come.
J. Allen (NLA), 26 January 2004.
Notes by [1] taken on 27/12/03, Roman pits, hearths, ditches, 'wickerwork circle', 'wood circle'. One pit was probably Middle Saxon. The very small amounts of brick/ tile are Roman or post- medieval.
See file.
