Summary

17th century Hill Cottage is a timber-framed and plastered house with a thatched gabled roof. This two storey building has a central chimneystack and a small one storey and attic wing to the west. The remarkable point about this east to west aligned house is that it almost touches the north to south aligned Saffron Cottage, which is of a similar date.

Listing Description Excerpt:
"Timber framed house plastered over. Thatched gabled roof. Central stack. Two storeys. One 18th century window. Small one storey and attic wing to west. 17th century."

The remarkable point about this east-west house is that it almost touches the north-south Saffron Cottage (NHER 39559) of similar date, both set back east of the present road.
Seen only from upper floor of adjacent house, enough to confirm general description remains the same.

February 2008. Building recording.
One- and-a-half storey, two celled timber framed house. There is a clay lump and a more recent extension to the west end of the house, and a single storey stair tower on the south east corner. Internally, the eastern most room on the ground floor has a timber-framed chimeny, now divided in two and sharing hearth space with the room behind.
