Full Description
Site of Market Cross (Ordnance Survey).
Rebuilt in 1385, 1509, and 1604, latter with pillory. Demolished July 1836.
Information from (S1).
However latter date of rebuilding seems to be a mistake, as (S2) refers to the pillory of 1604 as being at site NHER 16573, and mentions 'an older market cross' with a figure of Justice 'recently' put on top.
E. Rose (NAU), 28 April 1981.
