Summary

Two undated ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. They are aligned almost parallel to each other and may define the edge of a wide trackway. They are located in an area of known prehistoric activity and may date to the Iron Age or Roman period. However it is possible that they represent a post medieval or modern farm track or other agricultural feature.

Map

February 2004, Norfolk NMP
Two undated ditches, up to 140m long, are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1). They are aligned approximately east to west and almost parallel to each other. It is possible that they define the edge of a trackway 23m wide at its eastern end and 16m wide at its western end. The site lies approximately 450m to the southeast of a probable Iron Age or Roman square barrow (NHER 13027) and trackway (NHER 38472), and a similar date for the possible trackway described here seems plausible. To some extent, however, the ditches do appear to lead towards the corner of the field and Helsdon's Farm to their east, and therefore a post medieval or modern date is also possible.
