Summary

A watching brief in 2003 revealed large quantities of flint-working debris, suggesting production of flint implements in this area in the prehistoric period. In addition, a single piece of Bronze Age pottery was found. In the southern area of investigation, two post medieval copper alloy artefacts were discovered: a small, decorative ring and a coin of George II.

Map

December 2003. Watching Brief.
Monitored the excavation of a trench for a new Anglian Water inlet main. Contexts 1-21 used.
Three hundred and fifty-seven pieces of struck flint, fifty-three fragments of burnt flint, one sherd of Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age Beaker pottery and a post-medieval metal object were recovered. This provides evidence of prehistoric activity in this area, with flint-working debitage suggesting temporary prehistoric settlement within the vicinity.
