Map

March 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of linear and curvilinear ditches, probably representing medieval to post medieval field boundaries, are visible on NLA aerial photographs (S1). Two broadly parallel ditches extend intermittently for 300m across the modern road on a northwest to southeast alignment. Their alignment reflects field boundaries recorded as cropmarks further to the west and north (NHER 38535, 38536). The fact that these ditches are cut by the modern road might suggest that they are of an earlier date. The road is shown on its present course by Faden in 1797 (S2), but may have had an earlier post medieval origin. A third, possibly contemporary ditch crosses the two main ditches at right angles close to the eastern end of the cropmarks. See also related cropmarks recorded as NHER 38535, 38536, 38537.
