Full Description
March 2004, Norfolk NMP
Linear and rectilinear features are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-2), centred at TG 2198 3665. Given their location close to the centre of Roughton, it seems likely that they represent medieval to post-medieval trackways and fields or enclosures. A narrow trackway and the corners of two possible enclosures on the south side of the field may be associated with Manor House Farm (NHER 29850) or its precursor. The alignment of the remaining features is not dissimilar to that of the southern features, and they are perhaps most likely to be the remains of fields or enclosures of similar date surrounding this farm. While their proximity to a medieval to post-medieval moated site and enclosures (NHER 6747) indicates that the two sites may be associated, the differing orientation of each suggests that they are not contemporary and/or were separate entities in the past.
