Map

April 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of ditches defining medieval to post medieval enclosures, a possible trackway and garden features at Manor House, East Ruston are visible on aerial photographs (S1 and 2). A rectilinear enclosure, measuring at least 30m x 35m are present in the lawn immediately to the south of the house and outbuildings. Cropmarks of other features are visible within this enclosure in 1946 (S1). A second incomplete enclosure, with an internal division, adjoins its east side (S1 and 2). Cropmarks of a ditch are visible to the south of the enclosures. Both of the enclosures are marked on the 1841 East Ruston tithe map (S3). However, their close association with Manor House (NHER 13450) means that they may be garden features of an earlier post medieval or possibly even medieval date. An earthwork ditch is aligned parallel to the south side of the main enclosure, possibly defining a trackway. This feature was not marked on the tithe map. The earthworks of the enclosures were still extant in 1988 (S2). (S1 to 3).
