An earthwork of a square pit with an outer bank is visible on 1943 aerial photographs (S1). It is possible that it is a World War Two light anti aircraft battery. The pit is about 7m square and is surrounded by a earthwork bank on three sides, making it similar in size to published examples (S4. pp.60). The west side is unbanked, with another small break in the bank at the southeast corner. The possibility of this being a World War Two feature is supported by the presence of anti tank cubes to the north (NHER 38559), the location of which is otherwise inexplicable. If this site was an anti aircraft battery it appears to have been out of use iby 1943 (S1). If it is not of World War Two date it is likely to be a post-medieval to modern feature of unknown function. The earthwork remains had been ploughed by 1963 (S2) and the feature is clearly visible as soilmarks on 1988 aerial photographs (S3). A similar earthwork feature is recorded 190m to the south (NHER 38604).
