Full Description
January/February 2004. Metal detecting.
Late Saxon/early medieval copper alloy sword chape, cast, asymmetrical with knop on terminal, projecting central trefoil flanked by U-sectioned sides both with two counter-sunk rivet holes at upper inside edge, faces and sides have engraved, sketchy, almost 'shorthand' ?Ringerike style decoration. Compare with (S1). 41mm by 44mm. 11th to 12th century.
