Full Description
Before 12 December 2003. Metal detecting.
Medieval lead alloy, probably pewter, socketed strap end, cast in one (copper alloy examples have separate backplate). The front is decorated with an elaborate sunburst or wheel with eight arms within a cabled border, the cable motif extending around the sides. The back is plain. Three rounded but flat lobes project on stems from the outside edge (see for comparison Fingerlin (1971) Abb.309). One rivet, to hold the strap, near the damaged attachment edge. Late 14th - early 15th century.
A. Rogerson (NLA) 16 February 2004.
