Full Description
October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Site of circular earthwork mound, possibly a barrow visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1). The circular mound is just visible at TG 0700 4187 and is 8.5m in diameter. The mound appears to have a slightly sunken feature in the centre, possibly where a trench has been cut through. The mound has some height when viewed in stereo, however, this is put into perspective by the fact that the wood bank to the immediate east appears to be higher than the mound. Despite its possible low height this mound could represent a Bronze Age barrow, part of the dispersed cemetery on the heath. It is also possible that it is a mound of spoil from some sort of industrial activity in the area, such as extraction.
