Summary

Two possible earthwork mounds are visible on aerial photographs from 1987 and 1988. No evidence for them could be found during a field visit in 1993. Given their absence from earlier aerial photographs, both the existence of the mounds and their archaeological origin are in doubt.

Map

June 2004, Norfolk NMP.
Two possible earthwork mounds were identified on aerial photographs (S1-2) in 1993 (NMR TG 23 NW 36). An approximate location of TG 226 388 was given for these features. A field visit undertaken in the same year could not identify them on the ground. Subsequent re-examination of aerial photographs of the area as part of the Norfolk NMP identified possible candidates for these mounds, centred at TG 2259 3849. On the basis of the consulted aerial photographs, however, it is impossible to tell whether they are of archaeological origin. Their absence from earlier aerial photographs suggests that they may be a trick of the vegetation and light rather than genuine earthworks. Consequently they have not been mapped. (S1-2)
