Map

June 2003. NMP.
A type 22 pillbox situated on the western bank of the River Great Ouse, below Free Bridge. This location was presumably to cover the approach to the bridge from the A47 to the west although it also overlooks the river. The opposite side of the bridge would probably also be visible from this position. The structure appears to have been painted or covered with a dark coloured material in 1946 (S1), but appears as a lighter concrete colour in 1947 (S2). The date of its destruction is unknown but it is not visible in 1961 (S3).
M. Brennand (NMP), 17 June 2003.
