Map

July 2003. NMP.
A 250m length of bank is visible aligned in an approximate north to south direction from TF 6345 1936 to TF 6345 1911 (S1). From the mid point of this feature a length of bank forks off towards the north-east, for a length of 150m, to TF 6353 1938. This bank appears to be extensive and was presumably more than just a field boundary. It is more regular and straight than the banks to the south lining the drains and rivers (NHER 38311 and NHER 38299) and may be an addition to them, designed as an additional flood defence. The feature may be medieval or post-medieval. There is a possibility that this is the parchmark of a surfaced road, leading north from Hardwick, although it is suggested this is not the case.
M. Brennand (NMP), 22 July 2003.
