Full Description
August 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A cropmark of a possible medieval to post medieval road or hollow way is visible on aerial photographs (S1-3). This site was previously recorded as part of NHER 21773. A 3m wide linear cropmark extends for 63m between TG3677729828 and TG3679629768 on a roughly north to south alignment. This cropmark is aligned adjacent to the present course of a track called Mill Lane and may represent an earlier route of this thoroughfare. The appearance of this cropmark suggests that if this is the earlier course of the road, it existed as a hollow way. It is possible, although less likely, that this cropmark relates to an undated ditch. The line of this cropmark crosses a rectilinear enclosure of possible Iron Age to Roman date (NHER 38734). See also adjacent cropmarks (NHER 38721, 38722).
(S1 to 3).
J. Albone (NMP), 16 August 2004.
