World War Two barbed wire defences are visible around Happisburgh lighthouse on 1940 and 1943 aerial photographs ((S1) to (S2)). Barbed wire is present along the southwest and southeast sides of the lighthouse and along both sides of the drive approaching it from the southwest. These defences were placed to protect the lighthouse (NHER 7092) and are linked to the pillbox at their eastern end (NHER 15917).
