Summary

A possible enclosure and linear ditch are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Only the northern half of the enclosure is visible but it appears to be small and square in plan. Morphologically, it is similar to enclosures of unknown date identified 650m to the north (part of NHER 13064). These may have had an agricultural or, more specifically, pastoral function. At the same time, the cropmarks are not particularly distinct and are visible on only one set of vertical aerial photographs. There is therefore a relatively high risk that they reflect modern agricultural activity rather than an archaeological feature.

Map

September 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A possible enclosure and linear ditch are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 2396 3787. Although the archaeological origin and significance of the cropmarks is doubtful, the similarity of the postulated enclosure to a group of small, square enclosures to the north (NHER 13064) suggests that the site could represent a similar type of feature.

Only the north side of the enclosure is visible but it appears to be rectilinear in plan and at least 23m wide. The break along its north side is as likely to be due to the cropmark being masked as to the presence of a genuine entrance. A linear ditch visible to its south has a similar orientation to the enclosure and could have formed its southern side.
