Summary

In 2004 a hole was reported in the field at this location. It was irregular, less than 2m across, and fairly shallow. It contained limestone fragments and part of a recent pantile. This feature was probably the top of a solution hole and thus a natural feature.

September 2004. Report by member of the public [1] of hole appearing in field near to site of church (NHER 4290).
Hole is some distance north of NHER 4290, about 50m east of bend in road.
Irregular, less than 2m across; visible depth 500mm but below clayey ploughsoil it is filled with soft wet earth into which a rod may be pushed for 1.5m.
Very small fragments of limestone in topsoil probably deriving from NHER 4290, and one fragment recent pantile (identified by D. Gurney (NLA)).
Probably top of a solution hole; subsoil known to be gravel.
