Summary

The location of several military roadblocks along Cabbell Road, Cromer are visible on aerial photographs from 1940. The obstacles appear to be at the point where the Cadogan and Canada Roads cross Cabbelle Road. It is likely that these were created during Home Guard training exercises, as well as acting as invasion defences.

Map

October 2004. Norfolk NMP.
The location of several possible roadblocks along Cabbell Road, Cromer are visible on aerial photographs from 1940 (S1). It is likely that these were created during Home Guard training exercises, such as those recording as having taken place at various locations around Cromer (Brooks, 1988:26-7) (S2). The site is centred on TG 2161 4223.

The 1940 oblique aerial photograph reveals several lines crossing the road and various obstacles which appear to be forming road blocks, although do not appear to incorporate cubes. The obstacles appear to be at the point where the Cadogan and Canada Roads cross Cabbelle Road. These features were not mapped individually as the photograph is very oblique and the features are not easily distinguishable. Instead an extent of area was defined.
S. Massey (NMP), 06 October 2004.
