Full Description
October 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A pair of possible World War Two defensive structures is possibly visible projecting out of two beach chalets on Cromer promenade. The exact military function of the two structures is not known, however they are situated to the immediate east of a type 22 pillbox (NHER 38863). Additional pillboxes were also positioned along the promenade to both east and west at regular intervals, generally positioned within the projecting bastions (NHER 32572, 32576, 38832 to 3, 38857 to 8). These defences would have created a continuous line of defence along the Cromer coastline.
The site is centred on TG 2160 4241. The visible components of the structures consist of a rectangular projection from the front of the chalets, measuring 3m by 1m.
S. Massey (NMP), 14 October 2004.
