Summary

This is the site of a medieval chapel dedicated to St John the Baptist. Late Saxon and medieval pottery have been found by fieldwalking, as well as medieval architectural fragments which indicate the site of the chapel.

It is probably this site that has given rise to the local story of an abbey, see for example, Abbey Farm.
