Full Description
October 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A possible structure, probably a World War Two pillbox, is visible as a standing structure on aerial photographs taken in 1942 (S1), centred at TG 2720 3917. Only the western half of the pillbox has been mapped as the remainder is hidden by the edge of Pond Plantation (S2). Something - it is not clear what - is visible at this location on aerial photographs taken in 1943 (S3). There is no trace of the pillbox on subsequent aerial photographs, and it was certainly demolished by 1952 (S4).
The shape of the pillbox in plan is not particularly clear and it is also obscured by trees. It has been mapped as a circular feature measuring almost 5m in diameter but could equally have been a polygonal structure.
