October 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A possible World War Two pillbox or structure is visible on aerial photographs to the immediate south of the railway line (NHER 13585) to Cromer in 1946 (S1). The structure is centred on TG 2423 4048 and measures 4.5m square, this would be consistent with a type 20 or similar pillbox. The railway would have been an important strategically and therefore it would potentially require defence. Although the identification of this structure as being military in origin is not certain, as it may have been related to railway maintenance or a similar activity. The structure was still present in 1955 (S2), but the whole area was developed during the 1960s and neither the structure or the track remains.
