Full Description
Before July 2003. Stray Find.
Found to north and east of mammoth butchery site (NHER 37095):
2 ?Mesolithic/Early Neolithic single platform blade cores.
2 undatable prehistoric scrapers, 2 denticulates, 1 retouched flake, 3 flake fragments and 2 burnt flints.
Found on spoil heaps at northern edge of quarry:
3 Iron Age pottery sherds.

Flints identified by P. Robins (NCM), July 2003 and pottery by A. Rogerson (NLA). See descriptions in file.
A. Rogerson (NLA), 4 December 2003. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 16 May 2013.
This record was previously incorrectly mapped as a point centred on TL 8242 9488. The mapped extent of this record has therefore been corrected to reflect the more likely location of these discoveries (although this can only be estimated). An Upper Palaeolithic core previously recorded under this number is now detailed under NHER 58790.
P. Watkins (HES), 16 May 2013.
Before 10 September 2003. Stray Finds.
Various finds reportedly found in the vicinity of Lynford Quarry. Although no further locational information was given it seems reasonable to assume that these objects were recovered in much the same area as the finds detailed above. These finds were previously recorded as NHER 39974 (which was unmapped).
1 Mesolithic two-opposed platform flint blade core.
1 ?Neolithic single-platform flint core.
1 undatable prehistoric spurred piece, 3 retouched flakes, 2 irregular cores, 19 flakes, 2 'bashed lumps', 8 thermal flakes, shatter pieces and a 1 fragment of burnt flint.
1 Iron Age pottery sherd.
1 undatable bone awl and 1 unidentifiable rib fragment were also found.
See file for list and description by P. Robins (NCM).
A. Rogerson (NLA), 28 November 2003. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 17 May 2013.
Pre April 2004. Stray Find.
Further surface finds from area to east of mammoth kill site:
1 Late Upper Palaeolithic flint blade,
1 ?Late Upper Palaeolithic crested flake and 1 small blade core.
1 Neolithic keeled core (Clark's Type D).
3 undatable prehistoric flint scrapers, 1 single-platform flake core and 3 retouched flakes.
Identified by P. Robins (NCM), April 2004. See descriptions and sketch location plan (S1) in file. These finds were reported in (S2). Previously recorded under NHER 5090.
The Upper Palaeolithic flints are potentially associated with the known Upper Palaeolithic site to the west (NHER 21499).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 29 April 2013.
