Summary

A possible ring ditch, perhaps the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. It is one of several such features to be identified in the surrounding area (see, for example, NHER 38957, NHER 36490 and NHER 39012), which together form a group of rather dispersed ring ditches situated on the east side of a wide spur of land between Mundesley Beck and Brandfield Beck.

Map

December 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A possible ring ditch is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 2645 3633. Although the interpretation of the cropmark is open to question, if it is a ring ditch, like similar features in the surrounding area, it is most probably the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow. At the same time, the fact that it is visible on aerial photographs from only one year (i.e. 1946) means that the possibility that it is a product of modern agricultural activity cannot be ruled out.
The postulated ring ditch is only partially visible, its south side being masked. It appears to be fairly circular in plan and measures approximately 17m in diameter. A possible internal pit could mark the position of a grave or burial pit.
