Map

December 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A group of probable World War Two weapons pits are visible on aerial photographs on the Warren, Northrepps (S1). The site is centred on TG 2434 4037 and consist of three distinct clusters of pits; the largest is centred on TG 2427 4040, a second group at TG 2444 4037 and a third possible group slit trench TG 2433 4034. The larger and more pronounced pits have been mapped individually, the rest have been defined by an extent of area on the NMP map. These pits look relatively fresh in 1946 (S1) and a number of them are elongated slits, as would be expected for military weapons pits dug during training. Many of the other areas of woodland and heath in the area have evidence of military training and defensive features of this sort (NHER 38814, 39821).

This interpretation is not definite and it is possible that these features relate to small scale gravel extraction of post medieval to modern date. The eastern end of the Warren in particular has been quite heavily quarried for gravel during this period.
