Summary

A possible ring ditch, perhaps the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site is visible on only one set of aerial photographs and while plausible as an archaeological cropmark, the possibility that it is of geological origin cannot be ruled out. Similar features, also of uncertain origin, have been mapped to the west (e.g. NHER 12804).

Map

December 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A possible ring ditch (previously recorded as NHER 36762) is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 3073 3543. The site, which is located on a natural terrace above Mundesley Beck, is plausible as the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, and in the absence of other evidence this interpretation seems most likely. It should be treated with caution, however, as the general appearance of the cropmark is not entirely convincing as an archaeological feature and the background geology of the area seems conducive to the production of ring-like and circular cropmarks (see also NHER 39045 and 12084).

The ring ditch is only partially visible but appears to be more-or-less circular in plan. It measures approximately 34.5m in diameter.
