Civil Parish BEACHAMWELL, BRECKLAND, NORFOLK

Map

On former heath north of village.
'Stone' on OS, remains of cross. According to (S1) this was formerly at NHER 15166, removed to this spot to prevent use as mounting block in mid 19th century and used as part of glebe boundary.

22 August 1979. Visited E. Rose (NAU)
Stone base about 1m square, now with 'G' for glebe carved on it, supports base of shaft unusually oblong rather than octagonal, with four motise holes on top. Now in centre of cornfield, formerly heath (see [1]). Other glebe markers seem to have been removed, though an intensive search was not made for all of them. They were probably simple stone posts, the antiquity of this one accounting for its preservation.
E. Rose (NAU)

1981.
Returned to NHER 15166 by parish council.
E. Rose (NAU)

Actually set against churchyard wall instead.
R. Rickett (NAU).

See (S1) and (S2).

New site is NHER 34588.
