Summary

Three small structures are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946. Their function is unknown but they are presumed to be associated with World War Two activity in the area. It is possible that they relate to the defences for this stretch of coast, or even that they represent part of the process of removing those same defences.

Map

December 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Three small structures, presumed to be World War Two military features, are visible on aerial photographs (S1-3), centred at approximately TG 3300 3520. Their exact function is not clear but extensive coastal defences have been mapped in the area, such as the battery and training area to the north-west (NHER 39109) and the anti-landing trenches to the south of the site (NHER 38990). An association with this military activity, or with the post-war removal of military installations, such as the barbed wire that protected the cliff edge (NHER 39150) therefore seems likely. Alternatively, they might represent agricultural activity; a small building visible on the same photographs 150m to the south-east, which remained in use through the 1950s, seems to relate to agricultural or other post-war activity and consequently has not been mapped.
