Summary

A group of undated ditches and banks is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Several of the features fit the pattern of enclosure depicted on early 20th century maps and are most likely to be post-medieval field boundaries. The remaining features are of unknown date but could be an outlying part of the medieval to post medieval field system (NHER 39160) identified 200m to the south. The cropmarks surround the site of an Early Saxon cemetery (NHER 6872) but there is no evidence of any association between the two; similarly, Roman coins found at the same site may or may not be related to the cropmarks.

Map

December 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A group of linear ditches and banks are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-2), centred at TG 3178 3619. Several of the features are likely to be post-medieval field boundaries, as they fit the pattern of enclosure depicted on historic Ordnance Survey maps (e.g. S3). The others remain undated but could be associated with the medieval to post-medieval field system (NHER 39160) 200m to the south. Some of the mapped features, such as the double V-shaped ditches visible at TG 3177 3600, may be the product of modern agricultural activity rather than the presence of archaeological features.
