Summary

An undated ditch of unknown function is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. It lies less than 300m to the east of a group of field boundaries (NHER 39068), some of which may date back to the Iron Age to Romano-British period. Feasibly the ditch could be associated with these boundaries. Alternatively, it might be an unrelated boundary ditch or drainage feature, or even a cropmark of modern agricultural origin.

Map

January 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A ditch of unknown date and function is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1), from TG 3084 3673 to TG 3079 3670. There is no dating evidence for the feature, although a Romano-British camp kettle was found nearby (NHER 6869). It might be associated with the group of linear ditches visible as cropmarks 290m to its west (NHER 39068). It is, however, visible on only one set of aerial photographs, and in the absence of any evidence supporting its archaeological origin, the possibility that it is the product of modern agricultural activity cannot be ruled out. Other cropmarks in the surrounding area, which are visible on the same aerial photographs, seem to relate to recent agricultural activity.
