Full Description
January 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A group of World War Two coastal defences located on the cliff top at Mundesley are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1-2), centred at TG 3111 3697. The site comprises two probable gun emplacements (at TG 3110 3696 and TG 3113 3696), and a group of pits, probably weapons pits, at TG 3110 3698. There are signs of further military activity on the cliff below, from TG 3115 3696 to TG 3101 3708. The site is separated from a larger area of military activity to its north-west (NHER 39193) by a pasture field and a group of allotments or vegetable plots. Tracks across the field, however, indicate that the two sites were connected. Later aerial photographs and modern maps indicate that since 1946 much of the site has been lost to coastal erosion.
