Full Description
January 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of undated linear and curvilinear ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3232 3250 and extend over an area measuring 780m by 560m. Over thirty separate short sections of cropmark ditch are present in this group. They are widely dispersed and do not follow any common alignment. None of the ditches or conform to the post medieval field pattern. Two ditches in the south of the group at TG 3232 3237 appear to be aligned perpendicular to the present course of the road and may represent field boundaries of unknown, possibly medieval to early post medieval, date. Two parallel ditches at TG 3213 3218 are aligned roughly north to south and spaced 11m apart. It is possible that they represent a trackway of unknown date. Further undated parallel ditches perhaps a trackway leading to a small incomplete enclosure are present at TG 3220 3257. An undated L-shaped arrangement of ditches at TG 3258 3252 may represent the corner of a rectilinear enclosure or field measuring at least 39m by 32m. The date of the other linear and curvilinear cropmarks is also unknown although it is likely that most represent the boundaries of fields or enclosures.
