Map

January 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of a possible drain or path of post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3254 3171. A northwest to southeast aligned linear cropmark extends intermittently for up to 218m between TG 3246 3179 and TG 3261 3163. This linear feature appears to connect the site of Witton Hall (NHER 7069) in the northwest with a pond in the southeast. The pond is not marked on the 1841 Witton tithe map (S2) but is shown on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey map of the 1880s (S3). It is probable that these cropmarks represent the line of a drain leading downhill from the hall to the pond. Alternatively they could mark the line of a path. However, no path between these two points was marked on any of the maps examined, making the drain interpretation more likely.
(S1-3).
