Full Description
January 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of an undated rectilinear enclosure are visible on aerial photographs (S1-2). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3305 3100. The enclosure has maximum external dimensions of 63m by at least 67m with a 1.5m wide ditch. The southern side of the enclosure is cut, or formed, by the modern line of the road. A 19m long section of ditch splits the northern part of the enclosure into two areas, whilst an L-shape ditch to its east may represent a further internal division. A ditch at TG 3306 3098, which lies at an angle to the enclosure, is probably not related to it. The alignment of the enclosure does not match any of the other cropmarks in its immediate surroundings. The date and function of this cropmark are unknown. Its apparent relationship to the road might indicate a medieval or early post medieval date. However, it is similar in size and shape to the Late Bronze Age enclosure cropmark 800m to its northeast (NHER 29753) and could have a late prehistoric or Roman origin.
