Map

Roadway outside nos 18,20,22 and 24, and 19,21,23 Beaconsfield Road.
Massive subsidence. Stated to be due to burst water main but workmen on site were sceptical, pointing out the houses to each side were affected yet the ground was dry between the pipe and the houses. No 20 has experienced subsidence in the past as shown by several filled cracks in the façade and there are local stories of chalk mines being found in the past under this and adjacent roads.
