Full Description
February 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two pillbox or structure and possible associated section of barbed wire obstruction are visible on aerial photographs (S1 to 3), within the dunes at Marram Hills, to the north of Waxham Sands holiday park. The site is centred on TG 4539 2521 and the pillbox is located at TG 4536 2521. It measures potentially 6m by 5.5m and appearing to be roughly rectangular in shape on the vertical aerial photographs (S3), although it is partially buried in the dunes and therefore a clear description is not possible. The possible barbed wire identified on the 1946 aerial photographs (S3) runs from TG 4536 2520 to TG 4540 2523, forming a small D-shaped enclosure to the east of the pillbox. Two further pillboxes were identified on the seaward side (NHER 27246, 27252). These defences are protecting the beach access and approach through the dunes at Waxham Sands.
