Map

March 2005. Found amongst pieces of concrete dumped in causeway across water channel.
Quadrant fragment of upper millstone of millstone grit, 520mm x 330mm, latter is distance from central hole to remaining edge.
170mm of hole remains.
Thickness at centre 150mm. X chiselled in upper side
Andrew Rogerson (NLA) identifies as medieval millstone. He suggests the X is an idle mark rather than indicating the upper side as E. Rose (NLA) suggested.
Photo (S1) in file.
Destination of find to be determined.
E. Rose (NLA), 7 March 2005.

Find now with Norfolk Mills Trust.
[1] reports that [2] states this was the site of a bridge 'high enough to hang a man from' which collapsed. Rubble was brought from the farm in Post Office Lane and a ruined bakery in Little London to fill up the hole, so the millstone could have come from any of these.
E. Rose (NLA), 14 June 2005.
