NHER 41243 (Monument) - Site of convent of St Louis, 37 Albion Road

Main block of red brick, 2 storeys and attic.
South façade in three sections, windows all on basic pattern of straight heads with dripmoulds above pointed lights, some with transoms, all of red brick. Left hand bay advanced; gable has single light window; first floor three lights with transom; ground floor replaced by 20th century projection. To right, set back, next bay has gable with two single lights, first floor with two larger single lights set further apart; ground floor with door and single light below them. Right hand bay has single light in gable, three light window at first floor, ground floor with flat topped projecting bay window with ballflower cornice to parapet. Between the gables is cornice of large brick corbels. Projecting from east wall is lower section gabled to east, single light window to south. West gable wall has tall double octagonal chimney and plain chimney. Rear elevation to north not easily seen but has several projecting gables or dormers, and cornice as on south.
Former chapel to north-west demolished, as are buildings to east. To the south is a yard wall, tall with panels of brickwork divided by Latin cross piers and bands; there are three differing types of corbel tables, to the bands, the tops of the panels and the coping of the wall. There is an ornate round arched door with vertical patterns of brick floral impressions up the jambs. This door is similar to that to the church grounds to the north (NHER 4334); this, and the high quality of the brickwork and design, may suggest that Scholes was the architect of the convent as well as the church.
