Full Description
April 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Two possible World War Two structures are visible on aerial photographs along the coast at Eccles (S1-3). The site is centred on TG 4024 2964. These include a possible tall rectangular structure, just visible in 1940, largely camouflaged into the surrounding bank (S1) at TG 4021 2965. This structure may remain as late as 1946 (S2) as a possible structure with height can just about be discerned on the verticals, although nothing can clearly be seen. It is possible that this is a disguised defensive structure, possibly a gun emplacement, although the added height of the structure, when compared with the surrounding pillboxes (NHER 28747 & 32640), it may have had an observatory or watch post function.
To the immediate east at TG 4026 2964 is a small rectangular structural component, which appears to have been largely exposed by the 1953 storm event (S3). This is likely to represent a World War Two structure that had been set into the bank, which was undermined and exposed during the storm.
