April 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A line of posts is marked on the 1902-7 Ordnance Survey second edition map on the beach at Eccles-on-Sea (6”, 1902-7) (S1). The site is centred on TG 4040 2961. At least one of these posts is visible on the beach on aerial photographs in 1940 (S2). It is possible that this wooden structure represents a former groyne or sea defence.
The line of posts is depicted on the second edition map as running from TG 4039 2959 to TG 4042 2963. In 1940 one forked or possibly two closely set posts are visible on the beach approximately at TG 4039 2959, although these are not accurately located due to it being a very oblique shot. However the position of these timbers would roughly correspond with a line of posts marked on the map.
