Inter-tidal survey (Environmental Zone 10), Context 829:
A railway and winch system used to haul boats out of Wells harbour channel was recorded. The track was raised above the level on the channel bank on wooden sleepers and steel rails (at least one of the connectors between them was stamped 1935). The car was constructed from iron/steel girders, steel wheel and axles and wooden planks. A steel wire connected it to the winch system, which was attached to the harbour wall.
