Map

March 2003. Norfolk NMP.
The remains of about six saltern mounds can be clearly seen on Hunting Survey aerial photographs from 1969 (S1). The exact date and origin of these mounds is uncertain, but it seems possible that they are from the medieval/post medieval periods. The whole site is centred on NGR TG0638 4392 and covers an area of about 42866m square.
The individual salterns are located at a) TG0441 403 (centre) with an area of 8324m square; b) TG0435 4402 (centre) with an area of 2323m square; c) TG0435 4390 (centre) with an area of 3127m square; d) TG0429 4387 (centre) with an area of 1162m square; e) TG0443 4381 (centre) with an area of 1876m square; and f) TG0442 4377 with an area of 441m square.
(There is also a possible additional saltern, at NGR TG0427 4372, just to the south of the group visible on the Hunting Survey aerial photographs. However, it has not been plotted as it was not as definite and clear as the others. It is adjacent to the River Glaven, but just south of the sea bank (NHER 27082)
