Full Description
March 2003. Norfolk NMP.
There are about three banks and a ditch of uncertain date visible on OS aerial photographs from 1973 (S1) and RAF aerial photographs from 1945-6 (S2-3). They are located just to the south of Langham village and centred on approximately NGR TG0079 4088. Two of the banks appear quite large in length and width, one measuring around 90m x 10m (running from TG0079 4088 to TG0079 4079) and another measuring about 50m x 13m (running from TG0076 4099 to TG0075 4093). The third is smaller and bends, running from TG0079 4098 to TG0079 4097 to TG0080 4097 to TG0080 4098 and is about 1m wide (and the longest length of it is about 10m, while the shortest stretch only 7m). The ditch that can be seen is quite narrow and runs from TG0077 4098 through TG0076 4095 to TG0081 4093. It is possible that this ditch is connected to drainage as there is a reasonable amount of drainage going on in this area.
The medieval moated site of NHER 6174 is located nearby. It is possible that this whole site is related in some way and thus of a similar date? However this is only a possibility, the date and origin of this site are unknown.
