Full Description
May 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A probable spigot mortar emplacement dating to World War Two is visible as an earthwork pit and concrete thimble on aerial photographs (S1) and (S2), centred at TG 5199 0795. The pit, which is slightly squarish in plan, is only visible on photographs taken in April 1944 (S1). The internal thimble can be seen both on these and on later aerial photographs, e.g. (S2), when it had perhaps been removed from the pit or the pit had been backfilled. More recent aerial photographs and modern maps indicate that the site is now occupied by silos, and has presumably been levelled if not entirely destroyed.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 11 May 2005.
